Spire CU Taps 31 Year Industry Veteran Alex Mendes as CFO/CTO
Alex Mendes recently joined SPIRE Credit Union, Falcon Heights, MN, as its new Senior Vice President, Chief Financial and Technology Officer (CFO). He comes with 31 years of experience, most recently as CFO with $1.4 billion Inspirus Credit Union. Alex started his career with some of the largest and most prestigious global financial institutions in
New York City, NY and has ascended into various roles in credit unions and banks, including: CFO, E-Banking and Information Technology. He will maintain strategic oversight of SPIRE’s Asset-Liability Management, Finance, Corporate Investments Programs, and Information Technology.
Mendes holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from the State University of New York at Old Westbury, and is currently attending Harvard Business School. He is also fluent in several languages including Portuguese, Spanish, Italian and business French.
The new Spire CU CFO & Technology Officer is a passionate CU advocate and community volunteer, Mendes works with several social, civic, and professional organizations. He has served as: Northwest Credit Union Association (NWCUA) Innovation and Awards Committee member; Coastal Bend Children Advocacy Center President; Junior Achievement Chapter Treasurer; Credit Union National Association (CUNA) Payment, Fraud, and CFO Regulatory Committee member; and helped to develop Cornerstone Credit Union League’s Juntos Avanzamos, or Together We Advance, designation recognizing service to the Hispanic community.
