Jacksonville, Florida — VyStar Credit Union announced the hiring of Allie L. Braswell Jr. (right) as Vice President of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, a position that will strengthen VyStar’s ability to promote equality in all forms. After a comprehensive search to fill this important role, the depth of Braswell’s experience makes him an excellent choice. Braswell is responsible for planning and directing all aspects of VyStar’s diversity programs involved in recruiting, retaining and training a talented, diverse workforce. Through these efforts, VyStar will be better positioned to fill its role as a community leader, in addition to being a trusted financial institution.
“We are an organization built on diversity, equity and inclusion. More than what we are, it is who we are,” said Brian Wolfburg, VyStar President/CEO. “There is a need to focus more resources in these areas, both within our organization and in our
communities. By filling the Vice President of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion role, we are taking steps to enable other VyStar leaders and employees to further advance these ideals and continue to integrate them into VyStar’s practices and processes.”
The newly created position is one of several efforts by VyStar to become an even better advocate for positive change and best serve its members and employees. VyStar also implemented Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), which will focus on groups such as women, minorities, veterans, disabled individuals, the LGBTQ community and more. Through these ERGs, VyStar employees are empowered to have productive conversations about how to effectively support and advocate for these groups.
“Since joining VyStar, I’ve felt a familial culture where people really, genuinely do care and are trying to go the extra mile,” Braswell said. “What I hope to do is leverage my knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion to continue that and have people feel welcomed when they join our team. It is important for employees to feel respected for what they bring to the table and valued for the talents they have.”
Braswell’s career spans more than 30 years and includes in-depth experience in the areas of program development and implementation, multi-cultural employee resource groups, diversity recruiting, transformational leadership and public affairs and community relations. He has previously held management-level positions in Information Technology, Global Diversity & Inclusion and Corporate Social Responsibility at organizations such as The Walt Disney Company, Mayo Clinic and AC S State & Local Solutions.
Braswell earned a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology from American Intercontinental University and a master’s degree in Human Resources from Webster University. He is a veteran of the U.S. military, has been an ambassador for the U.S. Army Reserve and continues to volunteer as a civilian aide to the Secretary of the Army.
