Funding assists nonprofits in Central Valley and Sacramento
Sacramento, Calif., Sept. 27, 2021 – Golden 1 Credit Union (Golden 1) today announced 33 nonprofits in Sacramento and Fresno are among the recipients of its annual Community Grant Program. The funding will help advance local initiatives that promote literacy and assist foster youth as they transition to adulthood.
“As we continue to learn more about the short- and long-term impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on our vulnerable populations, we know it is especially important to provide support to organizations that enrich the minds of future generations,” said Erica Taylor, Vice President of Communications and Community Relations. “Golden 1 is inspired by the vision of these 33 recipient organizations and we are honored to help them continue to serve their communities.”
One of the recipients is Breakthrough Sacramento, which works to motivate and enable middle and high school students from under-resourced communities to encourage them to seek a college education. The Sacramento-based nonprofit provides a year-round, tuition-free college preparatory program for academically motivated, ethnically diverse students from economically marginalized schools in the Sacramento area.
“This grant is significant for Breakthrough Sacramento and the more than 200 middle and high school students attending public schools in under-resourced neighborhoods,” said Faith Galati, Executive Director of Breakthrough Sacramento. “With Golden 1’s financial support, we can continue to change even more lives, families, neighborhoods, and communities through education.”
Another recipient, the iFoster Jobs Program, works to ensure that every child growing up outside of their biological home has the training, resources and opportunities they need to become successful, independent adults by providing a free platform of resources for foster care youth, caregivers, and organizations.
“This Golden 1 grant means a tremendous amount to iFoster,” said Serita Cox, iFoster CEO. “We are grateful to have Golden 1’s support to further our mission of expanding our jobs program to include job skills development and employment placement in permanent, competitive jobs for foster youth in Fresno and Madera counties.”
