Golden 1 CU Donates 1,000+ Handmade Face Masks to Local Nonprofits

In its continued effort to promote community wellbeing, Golden 1 Credit Union (Golden 1) donated more than 1,000 handmade face masks to local nonprofit organizations. PRO Youth and Families and Fruit Ridge Community Collaborative, which both provide assistance to children and families, received the masks recently.

The credit union worked with local artists from The Atrium, who have faced reduced income due to the coronavirus, to repurpose 250 unused Golden 1 t-shirts from past events. The artists upcycled the shirts into 3-layer washable, reusable protective masks that will last through multiple washings.

“Golden 1 believes in people helping people, and this is a win-win combination. We are helping artists who are struggling due to COVID-19, and we are helping amazing community nonprofits,” said Erica Taylor, Vice President, Communications and Community Relations.

“This pandemic has been difficult for everyone, but nonprofits and artists have been particularly impacted. We continue to look for ways to help our community through this crisis, and we are grateful for the opportunity to donate these masks to organizations providing critical services to those in need.”

Golden 1 will also be donating $2,000 worth of handwashing stations to the nonprofit organizations.
